【文匯專訊】美國有線電視新聞網(CNN)當地時間15日在其網站上就主持人卡弗蒂發表辱華言論進行辯解，並勉強道歉。
在CNN網站首頁中部的「Popular News」欄目中，刊登了《China demands apology from Cafferty(中國要求卡弗蒂道歉)》一文。文章前三段陳述了中國外交部對卡弗蒂言論的指責及要求卡弗蒂道歉的情況，而在第四段才提及CNN道歉的內容。
CNN在報道中這樣說：
CNN發表了一份聲明稱：「不論是卡弗蒂先生本人，還是CNN，都無意冒犯中國民眾；在這裡，我們願向受到此言論影響的人們道歉。」
隨後，CNN在報道中還就卡弗蒂的言論予以辯解，稱其言論是指向「中國政府而非中國人民」，並以「多年來卡弗蒂曾對包括美國政府及其領導人在內的很多政府發表過批評性言論」來繼續為卡弗蒂的辱華行為辯護。
聲明原文如下："It was not Mr. Cafferty's nor CNN's intent to cause offense to the Chinese people, and [CNN] would apologize to anyone who has interpreted the comments in this way."
In its statement issued Tuesday, CNN said Cafferty was offering his "strongly held" opinion of the Chinese government, not China's people, adding that he clarified the point Monday.
The network noted that "over many years, Jack Cafferty has expressed critical comments on many governments, including the U.S. government and its leaders. "
